Time Passes - Zualteii Poonte

Long gone, long done,
long ago yesterdays
live on in the recesses of the mind,
held by tenuous threads of spider silk
spun finely through the hazy distance
of mutating time.

But was it all quite as perfect
as you remember or does
the index of the mind
fudge the reality?

Then again,
does the truth really matter
so long as the illusions
leave you happy.

*Footfalls echo in the memory
Down the passage which we did not take
Towards the door we never opened ~ T.S. Eliot*

~~~
Winter shreds
the leaves from the trees;
denuded, desolate, defenceless,
they stand in silence.
But Spring comes
and out of the bleak nothingness,
a new life breathes.
The old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
  1. This kinda leaves you nostalgic of the bygone days. Though I did not share any of the poet's memories, the poem depicts emotions everyone feels time and time again and I can claim the feelings told here as my own.
  2. Thanks, jay-me, the remembrance of things past is universal and I started writing this when an old friend was reminiscing of the past. But human memory is such a tricky little thing being so connected to the emotions and imagination, which is why I foot-added Eliot's lines from The Four Quartets.
    I don't write a lot of poetry and these two were just, as I put it in the title, time passes :)
  4. In my opinion, 'changing times and seasons' will always be one of the best and interesting subjects in literature! I like the question it asks!
